It keeps the specialties it was known for — the Bothin Burn Center, an orthopedic and sports medicine institute, and a pain management center — which is why it draws referrals from well beyond the city. From SFO it's about 14 miles and 25 to 50 minutes, flat $65 either direction.
Free valet, and why people still book a car
Being straight about it: parking here is better than at most San Francisco hospitals. There's complimentary valet at the front entrance on weekdays, plus a valet-only lot on Pine Street at no charge and self-park lots on Hyde and Bush. If you live in the Bay Area and have a car, driving here is genuinely workable.
What valet doesn't solve is the two things our riders actually have: arriving by air with luggage, or leaving after a procedure you can't drive away from. Street parking around the hospital is a strictly enforced two-hour limit, so it won't cover a long day either. That's the honest case for a booked car here — not the parking.

The other thing about this address is the terrain. Hyde Street carries a cable car line and the cross streets fall away sharply in both directions. A walk that looks trivial on a map is a real climb, particularly after a procedure or with a bag.
Because the hospital sits among the Nob Hill and Union Square hotels, plenty of families here need short local hops as much as airport runs. Those are bookable the same way and quoted before you pay.
