An economy SUV runs a flat $65 one way between Chinese Hospital and SFO — no surge, no meter, no per-bag charge. Minivans, premium sedans, and premium SUVs are available in the booking flow, where the exact all-in fare for your vehicle is shown and confirmed before you pay.

The booking flow adds the $5.50 SFO airport fee, shown as its own line: $70.50 all-in for the economy SUV.

Getting a car into Chinatown

Chinese Hospital is at 845 Jackson Street, in the middle of Chinatown — one of the densest and most awkward parts of San Francisco to reach by car. Jackson and the streets around it are narrow, often blocked by deliveries, and effectively impossible to park on. There is a hospital garage tucked behind the administration building, but it is small and hard to find.

We know the block. The car comes to the nearest workable curb on Jackson, the driver texts you when they're there, and if the street is blocked they'll tell you exactly where to walk out to instead of leaving you guessing. From SFO it's about 14 miles, 30 minutes to an hour, flat rates from $65 either direction.

A community hospital, not a campus

This is a 59-bed, community-owned nonprofit — small by the standards of the other hospitals on this list, and deliberately so. It runs a 24-hour emergency department along with surgery and outpatient services, and it has served Chinatown for well over a century with care delivered in the community's own languages.

Practically, the scale means there's no sprawling campus to navigate and no building numbers to decode. There's one address and one entrance to aim for, which makes the pickup simpler than at UCSF or ZSFG. The hard part is purely the street outside.

Relatives arriving from overseas

A large share of these rides are family flying into SFO from abroad to visit someone admitted here — often older relatives, often after a long-haul flight, often without a US phone plan or a rideshare account that works on arrival. Handing them an app at baggage claim is not a plan.

Book it for them instead. Use your own card and details, put their name and phone number in the notes, and the driver contacts them directly. Add the flight number and we track it, so a long-haul delay moves the pickup rather than losing the car. This site is available in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese if that's easier for whoever is booking.

Visits that involve the whole family

Visiting here is rarely a solo trip. It's often three generations, several bags, and a schedule built around who can get away from work. A 7-seat minivan handles a group that an SUV won't, and its exact fare is shown in the booking flow before you pay — no guessing whether everyone will fit.

For more people than one vehicle holds, send a custom ride inquiry and we'll arrange however many cars are needed. If relatives are staying in the city, our hotel guide lists options with flat-rate airport pricing already attached.

Frequently asked questions

Can a car actually stop outside the hospital?

Usually yes, on Jackson Street — but Chinatown streets get blocked by deliveries without warning. If that happens the driver will text you a specific nearby corner to walk to, rather than circling and leaving you waiting.

Is there parking if we drive ourselves?

There's a hospital garage behind the administration building, but it's small, and street parking in Chinatown is close to hopeless. For visits with several family members it's usually less trouble to be dropped at the door.

Can you help if my relative doesn't speak English?

Book on their behalf and put their name and number in the notes, so the arrangements are settled before they land. We can't guarantee a Chinese-speaking driver on any given ride, so for a traveler with no English it's worth having someone reachable by phone during the pickup.

Our flight is international and clearing customs takes a while.

That's expected. Add the flight number and we track the actual landing, then allow time for immigration and baggage — you won't be charged for the wait, and the driver won't leave.

Parking, entrances and visiting rules change, and we're a car service rather than the hospital. For the current details, see the official Chinese Hospital page. We keep this page updated as we learn of changes, but the operator is always the authority.
