The day

A plan, not a schedule

Every stop below is a suggestion your driver will happily rearrange from the front seat. Times are what the day looks like when nothing changes — and something usually does.

8:00 AM
Pickup at your hotelYour San Francisco hotel door, or the SFO curb if you are landing this morning — luggage stays in the car all day.
8:20 AM
Palace of Fine ArtsThirty minutes at the rotunda and the lagoon. Early enough that the colonnade is still empty and the light is coming across the water.
9:00 AM
Golden Gate Bridge, city sideThirty minutes at the Welcome Center, under the south tower. This is the bridge from below — the scale of it only reads from here.
10:00 AM
Battery Spencer, across the bridgeFifty minutes on the Marin headland, looking back through the towers at the whole city. The other bridge, and the photograph everyone actually wants.
11:00 AM
Lombard StreetThirty minutes at the crooked block — down it in the car, then out at the bottom for the shot looking up.
11:40 AM
Lunch, Ferry BuildingThe 1898 ferry terminal on the Embarcadero, now a hall of counters and stalls with the Bay Bridge out the front door. Forty-five minutes, your own expense — a real stop, not a long sit-down meal.
12:45 PM
Painted Ladies, optionalIf the morning has run to time, thirty minutes on the slope at Alamo Square opposite the row, with the downtown towers behind them — the postcard, from the spot the postcard was taken. It is the stop the day drops first if the bridge or the bay held you longer.
1:15 PM
Golden Gate ParkFifty minutes: the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden gate, the de Young. Entry to any of them is yours to buy — say the word and we wait.
2:20 PM
Lands EndThirty minutes above the Sutro Baths ruins, where the city stops and the Pacific starts. The last stop, and the quietest.
By 4:45 PM
Back at your hotelThe gap after Lands End is deliberate — traffic and parking take what they take, and a day with no slack in it is a day that runs late. Extra hours are $50–$110 each.

Who books this day

Layovers, first days, visiting parents

Eight stops in eight hours only works with a car that waits. Muni and a walking day get you three, a hop-on bus gets you the outside of everything, and a rideshare between each stop costs more than this by the fourth request.

It is also the standing answer for a long layover: SFO to the city, the highlights, back to departures, luggage never leaving the car.

The honest version

Two people, no hurry?

The city is genuinely good on foot and by cable car, and a Muni day pass is $6. Take the car when the party is three or more, when someone cannot manage the hills, when it rains, or when the day has to end at a departure gate.

Frequently asked

Can we start from SFO on arrival day?

That is one of the most common ways this is booked. We meet you at the curb, tour, and drop you at your hotel at the end — the airport transfer is folded into the day.

Is there a guide?

Your driver is a local driver-guide: they talk you through the city between stops and tell you what you are looking at when you get out. Inside a museum or a garden you are on your own — we hold the car nearby.

Alcatraz?

Tickets sell out weeks ahead and the tour takes three hours, so it does not fit an eight-hour city day. We drop you at Pier 33 and pick you up after — ask and we build the day around the sailing.
